Real Alternatives In Detroit
Solving global warming has many facets. This group is focused on just one; The Automobile. Our government seems to think it’s a technology problem. But the reality is that it is a government problem. Image is a vehicle created by FuelVapor of British Columbia, Canada, for the Automotive X Prize . No, its not from Detroit, but its displayed here because its an example of what happens when people get excited about making a difference.

I did some research last week and discovered that its far more dangerous to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk than in the street. It makes sense when you consider that a sidewalk must cross every side-street going everywhere. And it also makes sense considering that people turning right are looking up the road for traffic and not down the road for what biker they might kill. Statistically, people who frequently commute to work by Bicycle experience a major accident, on average, every 11 years. No thanks.

When society decides its time for a dedicated bicycle road, I'll be a very happy commuter. Until then you can call me Mr. Global Warming. Mr. GM for short.

I finally rode my bicycle to work this spring, twice! It's a dream long-unfulfilled because my commute has always been too far, and/or along routes without bicycle paths. I recently found myself working three miles from home, of which is 100% traversable via side-walk. It was an excellent learning experience for someone interested in human powered vehicles (hpv).
