Website Feedback
This group is a place for users of WeCanSolveIt.org to post their feedback about the site. This group is administered by the administration of the site. This group isn't meant to bash this site, just provide constructive feedback.

While I aplaud anyone compelled to write their editor regarding environmental issues, I do question the efficacy of an organization, like this one, prompting its members to write their editors. What I'd recommend instead is prompting the members in a focused way to write and confront journalists who do a particularly bad job of covering the environment.   Read More »
FYI, our latest member, Lauren, is actually an admin for this whole site. (She's now admin of this group, too.) In other words, the group has got the ear of the people running the show. So please offer your feedback.
After I post this blog entry, I'm clicking on the "Report to Admin" link which is right below the group name, Website Feedback.

I'm not doing that for the typical reason, to complain about the group. Rather, I'm doing that to get the Admin's attention and participation. We'll see how it goes.
I've noticed when I've created events or groups and then tried to invite friends, the interface is the same one for inviting people to this community. That is, it relies on knowing the person's email address which can prevent you from inviting your friends in this community. That's because one can send and receive friend invitations without ever seeing each other's email address.

So, when inviting people to groups and events, there needs to be an option to choose among your friends to include in the invitations.
Here is a UC Berkeley study that describes the energy-savings produced by computer applications with dark backgrounds and white lettering, rather than the typical light background and dark lettering. Consequently, Blackle.com offers such a version of google and has saved over 700,000 Watts-hours. This site really must offer that mode of operation.   Read More »
I think the We campaign is great. There seems to be two components to it: an on-line petition/mailing list and this on-line community.

It's also clear the 1.6 million members of the campaign are part of the petition component and not the on-line community.

I think the on-line community could be larger if the site did a better job of directing new petition signers to the community. When I signed the petition, I thought I had joined the community. When I realized I hadn't, I had to hunt around for the way to join the community.
I know someone on this site who is concerned about their privacy. And so, this person opted to make their screen name different than their real name.

The problem is this person's real name continues to show up when they do certain functions on the site, such as hosting an event or creating a blog.

The purpose of a screen name is to serve as your on-line identity, so please correct this.
The fact that every new member of WeCanSolveIt.org has to use a US zip code is really off-putting to international users of whom there are quite a number. And it's clear this site is intended for international users, because groups can be categorized as international.

It's seems pretty clear that this site shares the same architecture as that of my.barackobama.com. That site has recently started allowing international events and whatnot. I suggest consulting with them for the libraries to make that happen here.

Thanks!
