Repower Kansas

Did you know?
- Kansas is ranked 3rd in the US for its wind energy potential of 121,000-megawatts, but only ranks 12th for its current wind energy development - leaving huge opportunity for growth in the industry.
- After being hit by a tornado last year, the City of Greensburg recently partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy to rebuild the city so that it can generate electricity from 100% renewable sources, 100% of the time.
- Although the state does not mandate a renewable portfolio standard, Governor Sebelius set a goal in 2007 to produce 10% of Kansas’ electricity from wind by 2010, and 20% by 2020.

Clean energy jobs in Kansas
Kansas currently generates 75% of electricity from dirty coal. However, the state could benefit significantly from making the switch to clean energy and would actually be a national leader in wind energy generation.
A National Renewable Energy Laboratory study, for example, estimates that producing 2,500-megawatts of wind electricity in Kansas would bring $2.5 billion into the state’s economy, and would also create 8,300 construction jobs and 22,000 operating jobs over 20 years! Investing $1.4 billion in Kansas' clean energy economy could create more than 17,000 jobs in the state.
